First Gourmet Academy are proud to announce that we are entering partnership with the Australian Skills Managements Institution (ASMI).

This organization together with First Gourmet Academy encourages opportunities for our students and graduates to take on the challenges of working in the Land Down Under. Over the years the Top Culinary School in The Philippines have sent almost 200 of their graduates for work in The USA. Sending students to Australia is the next natural step in assisting our graduates to get a job on the global field.

Now we have around 50 of our graduates working in a hotel or restaurant in Australia, the director of First Gourmet Academy, Mats Loo explains. Joining hands with ASMI seems a natural thing for us to do. This will increase the opportunities for our graduates to live and work in Australia, he continues. This is especially important now when we are expanding our school into a second location in Shangri La Mall in Ortigas.

ASMI also helps individuals find housing while on internship. So, there’s no need to worry about finding a place to live while on the job. Some of our students have already been in Australia for quite a while. We are glad to share this success of some of our proud graduates that are now working there. These students will vouch for the high-class quality of education that First Gourmet Academy offers.

  1. Why did you choose First Gourmet Academy when you enrolled with us?

The main reason I chose FGA is that, part of its curriculum is being sent out for OJT to different hotels and restaurant which you need to accomplish in order to finish the course. This is why i chose FGA, with its connection to well-known establishments for its students to experience the real world of culinary.
New students sometimes thought that culinary is all about cooking and just plating nice looking food. But this is where they will learn how to work long hours, being pushed physically and mentally and so on.
Without this part of the curriculum, I don’t think there any other right stepping stone for students.

  2. Did First Gourmet Academy prepare you well for work in Australia?

FGA did prepare me to work in general. After finishing the course, I went to USA and worked in a 466 room - 5 Star hotel, The Ritz Carlton in Florida. I brought the skills and knowledge I gathered from FGA and enhanced it.
Now I am based in Australia, worked in 4 Star multi property Hotel Group the Accor. And then moved on and now an Executive Sous Chef of a busy local 255 seater Cafe/Bar/PUB that operates 7 days a week Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

  3. Do you recommend First Gourmet Academy to future culinary students who wants to work in Australia?

I 100% recommend FGA to all the aspiring Chefs out there. Whether you are aiming to work in Australia, or anywhere in the world. As FGA doesn’t only teach and train you properly, but also look after their students. Graduating is not the end in FGA, you will always be part of it.
